To me a picture book tells it's own story. I think it communicates through it's pictures whether it has words or not. We can use picture books in many ways. I would use a picture book to read aloud to my class or just have them look at the pictures and let them make up their own stories to the book. But we do have to be careful when choosing picture books for your students. Some ways to evaluate picture books are to get information on the author, make sure the pictures are going to be interesting to the students and that they are not to violent and graphic for them. Always have your students in mind when selecting books for them.
I enjoy picture books. I don't think that there's an age where your to young or old for picture books. There are many lesson plans and activities that can be created using these types of books. Overall I like picture books.

I agree, I really don't think you can ever get too old for picture books.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that you must know your students when selecting picture books and I also think pictures books are great for any age.

ReplyDeleteYou definately need to know your students well when selecting picture books. Holding their attention is probably the most important issue during the selection process.
